About us

Wilbur Smith, the last owner of Weston Mill, worked tirelessly to see the site formally recognized for its historical significance and lasting impact on the community. The Weston Mill Project honors his dedication and vision by ensuring his efforts and legacy are preserved in memory.

Our Mission

The mission of the Weston Mill Project is to honor and preserve the legacy of Weston Mill by securing a historical marker at the site where it once stood. Through this effort, the project recognizes the mill’s vital role in the American Revolution, its impact on community development, and its early adoption of innovative milling technology.

Our Values

The Weston Mill Project is committed to transparency in scholarship, ensuring that all research is carefully documented, accurate, and openly shared. We also honor and build upon the extensive work of the many historians, researchers, and community members whose thorough efforts have shaped our understanding of this site.

Grist mills were more than places to grind grain; they were the commercial and social hubs around which pioneer settlements grew, drawing farmers together, fostering trade, and anchoring the economic life of the surrounding countryside.
